Ion Chromatography Analysis

RJ Lee Group’s Ion Chromatography (IC) capabilities deliver high-sensitivity detection and quantification of ionic species across diverse sample types—from environmental matrices to consumer products. Our IC systems are optimized for trace-level analysis, regulatory compliance, and advanced research applications.

What is IC Analysis?

Ion Chromatography (IC) separates and measures ions—charged particles—in liquid samples. It works by passing a sample through a column packed with a resin that attracts specific ions. As the sample moves through the column, different ions travel at different speeds based on their chemical properties and interactions with the resin.

Once separated, the ions are detected using conductivity or UV, which measures their concentration with high sensitivity. This makes IC ideal for analyzing trace levels of contaminants like fluoride, chloride, bromide, nitrate, nitrite, phosphate, sulfate, and hexavalent chromium in water, soil, air, and consumer products.

RJ Lee Group’s IC systems are equipped with automated batch processing and timestamped data integration, ensuring fast, reproducible, and audit-ready results.

What Can You Do with IC Analysis?

RJ Lee Group’s IC capabilities support:

  • Environmental and Industrial Hygiene—Conduct comprehensive analysis of water, soil, and air samples to detect and quantify a wide range of ionic contaminants—including fluoride, nitrate, sulfate, and hexavalent chromium. This process supports environmental monitoring, workplace exposure assessments, and industrial hygiene evaluations by identifying trace-level pollutants that may pose health or regulatory risks.

  • Consumer Product Safety—Can detect fluoride and other ionic compounds in consumer products such as food packaging, cosmetics, textiles, and raw materials. For samples requiring total analysis, RJ Lee Group can employ a combustion digestion step prior to IC testing.

  • Regulatory Compliance—This includes analysis aligned with NIOSH and OSHA methods for occupational exposure assessments, as well as EPA protocols for environmental discharge and waste characterization.

  • PFAS Detection—Can support the PFAS department by doing total fluoride analysis using combustion digestion and ion chromatography.
