Mining & Minerals

When What's in the Ground — and What Comes Out of It — Has to Be Proven

Rapid, reliable analytical data is the backbone of a successful mining operation. Every phase depends on it — from resource estimation and extraction planning to environmental monitoring and regulatory reporting. When results are slow, ambiguous, or incomplete, the downstream impact hits production schedules, permit timelines, and the bottom line.

RJ Lee Group's scientists bring deep expertise in geology, mineralogy, and metallurgy, and they work both in the lab and in the field. That combination matters because mining problems rarely sit neatly in one discipline. A particle size issue might be a processing question, an environmental question, and a resource recovery question all at once.

Our team doesn't just deliver reports — we help connect analytical data to the operational decisions it needs to support, whether that's optimizing extraction methods, managing slope stability, characterizing waste streams, or building a defensible compliance record.

Lab Results That Drive Operational Decisions

RJ Lee Group's scientists bring deep expertise in geology, mineralogy, and metallurgy, and they work both in the lab and in the field. That combination matters because mining problems rarely sit neatly in one discipline. A particle size issue might be a processing question, an environmental question, and a resource recovery question all at once.

Our laboratory delivers rapid, reliable testing for health and safety, environmental compliance, quality control, slope stability, waste management, and extraction optimization. But the results don't stop at a report. Our consulting scientists help you connect the data to the operational decision it needs to support.

Application Spotlight

Testing for Respirable Silica

In 2024, the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) significantly lowered the permissible exposure limit (PEL) for respirable crystalline silica. Mine operators must routinely collect and submit air samples using a cyclone sampler with a filter cartridge or a disposable parallel particle impactor (PPI). To maintain compliance and profitability, operators need an experienced partner for testing and analysis of air samples who can provide fast, accurate, and dependable results.

The geologists and EH&S professionals at RJ Lee Group have been helping keep miners safe for over 40 years. We conduct on-site and off-site testing, help develop in-house laboratory capabilities, set up structured compliance timelines, and conduct routine audits tailored to align with MSHA standards.

  • X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) equipment to process samples faster and with greater resolution.

  • Sensitivity to detect silica at very low limits, allowing us to process samples from even a short-duration exposure.

  • Experienced geologists to identify interferences such as mica, clays, kaolin, feldspar, graphite, and other minerals to improve accuracy and identify additional hazards.

  • Processing of bulk samples and air samples.

  • Rapid turnaround times at competitive prices.

Tools & Techniques

Our scientific team applies a comprehensive suite of advanced analytical techniques tailored specifically to the mining and minerals sector to deliver precise, repeatable characterization of ores, concentrates, tailings, and process materials. By integrating microscopy, elemental and phase analysis, and particle characterization methods, we generate the high‑quality data you need to understand mineralogy, liberate valuable minerals, and optimize process performance.

This rigorous analytical foundation supports the detailed testing tools and methods outlined below, enabling you to make confident, data-driven decisions at every stage of exploration, production, and waste management.

X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) is the preferred technique for accurate phase identification in ores, concentrates, tailings, and processed mineral products, allowing our scientists to distinguish and quantify crystalline phases even in complex, multi-mineral assemblages. By comparing diffraction patterns to extensive mineral reference databases, we deliver clear, defensible insight into mineralogy, alteration patterns, and performance-critical phases that impact ore characterization, process optimization, reagent selection, and product quality.

These results support mine planning, metallurgical testing, plant troubleshooting, and environmental and regulatory reporting across the mining and minerals value chain.

High-precision X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) elemental analysis to quantify and map the chemical composition of ores, concentrates, tailings, and process streams in mining and mineral processing operations, delivering reliable, defensible data for ore characterization, grade control, process optimization, and metallurgical accounting.

This detailed elemental insight supports quality control of feed and product, troubleshooting of plant upsets, evaluation of beneficiation performance, and research and development for new deposits and processing strategies.

High-resolution Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) for comprehensive particle and mineral characterization, delivering detailed insight into particle size, shape, distribution, and composition to support process optimization, ore characterization, and quality control across the mining and minerals value chain.

Optical microscopy, including Phase Contrast Microscopes (PCM) and Polarized Light Microscopes (PLM) services for precise mineral identification, characterization, and quantification, delivering reliable data to support regulatory compliance, quality control, and research objectives.

Advanced Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR)  and Raman spectroscopy for precise particle identification and characterization in mining and minerals applications, supporting source determination, process optimization, and compliance with regulatory and quality standards.

Obtain precise, defensible data at every stage of your mining and minerals workflow with RJ Lee Group’s wet chemistry expertise. Our laboratories provide comprehensive classical chemical analysis to quantify major, minor, and trace components in ores, concentrates, process streams, and tailings.

From exploration and resource evaluation to process optimization and environmental compliance, we apply validated methods, rigorous quality control, and industry standards to deliver results you can rely on for critical decisions in production, quality assurance, and regulatory reporting.
